Slapton Sands & Slapton Lea: The simple obelisk on the edge of Slapton Sands was presented by the US to the people of the South Hams who were evacuated to provide a battle practice area for the Normandy Landings.

The long stretch of shingle beach is a good hunting ground for collectors of shells and pretty pebbles. A 3-mile sandbar, carrying the road, protects the freshwater lagoon of Slapton Lea from contamination by the sea. The lake and its surrounding reedbeds are now a Nature Reserve for birdlife, particularly waterfowl and Reed Warblers.

The River Dart: The beauty of the River Dart is recognised throughout the world. You can enjoy a leisurely cruise on a river steamer up to Totnes when the tides are right, or around the harbour for a shorter trip. On the trip up to Totnes you will see Greenway House, the former home of Agatha Christie.

You can take a small ferry up to Dittisham, have lunch and walk back along the Dart Valley Trail. From Easter to the end of October, this ferry runs a regular service to and from the village.
