Things to see and do in and around Dittisham The Village Dittisham or Ditsum as it is locally known, is lucky enough to be served by two pubs, a post office, a shop and an excellent waterside cafe. The Red Lion is situated just up the road from Cobwebs. The pub also houses the village shop and the village post office. The shop carries a good range of local products including fresh baked bread from Dartmouth, local organic milk and a good selection of local meats and vegetables. The small but charming Ferry Boat Inn can be found at the other end of the village which is a ten minute walk from Cobwebs. A popular spot in the summer with visiting yachtsmen, the Ferry Boat Inn offers excellent home cooked meals and some local ales. The Anchorstone Cafe can be found just opposite the Ferry Boat Inn. A good spot for breakfast, the cafe is also locally renowned for its fresh local seafood. Walks There are miles of coastal footpath and some wonderful inland walks too. In summer, Coast Path and Dart Valley 'Hopper' buses allow you to enjoy the coast and river walks without having to worry about getting back to where you started! Advice about walks, leaflets, maps and bus timetables are available from the Tourist Office. The Dartmouth to Dittisham Ferry Licensed for 12 passengers, this delightful passenger ferry runs year round on a loop from Dartmouth to Dittisham. Note the ferry only runs for 4 days a week during the winter months. It is a great way to see the lower reaches of the Dart and enjoy a half hour trip on the River whilst not having to worry about parking at the other end. Please note during the busy summer months you may wish to book your return time with the skipper. Click here for the Dittisham Ferry timetable. Dartmouth Why not hire a small boat and explore the River, watch the wildlife and the many varieties of birds? Have a day or half a day fishing at sea. Go sailing with the sailing schools or learn to sail a dinghy at Dittisham. At Blackpool Sands take part in watersports from the beach. Greenway House - The former home of Agatha Christie Since the multi million pound refurbishment carried out by the National Trust, the Greenway estate is proving to be hugely popular. Take a short trip on the Dittisham to Greenway passenger ferry to get there. The River Dart The beauty of the River Dart is recognised throughout the world. Enjoy a leisurely cruise on a river steamer to Totnes when the tides are right, or around the harbour for a shorter trip. On the way to Totnes you'll see Greenway House. Take a small ferry up to Dittisham, have lunch and walk back along the Dart Valley Trail. From Easter to the end of October, this ferry runs a regular service to and from the village. Slapton Sands & Slapton Ley The simple obelisk on the edge of Slapton Sands was presented by the US to the people of the South Hams who were evacuated to provide a battle practice area for the Normandy Landings. The long stretch of shingle beach is a good hunting ground for collectors of shells and pretty pebbles. A 3-mile sandbar, carrying the road, protects the freshwater lagoon of Slapton Ley from contamination by the sea. The lake and its surrounding reedbeds are now a Nature Reserve for birdlife, particularly waterfowl and Reed Warblers.
