Guests are free to share the owner's lovely garden next door, where there is delightful view of the river and plenty of lawn to relax on. There is also a summer house where a cool glass of wine may be enjoyed and a pretty patio - ideal for an evening barbecue.

Walking: There are miles of coastal footpath and some wonderful inland walking too. In summer there are coast path and Dart Valley 'Hopper' buses, which allow you to enjoy the coast and river walks without having to worry about getting back to where you started! Advice about walks, leaflets, maps and bus timetables are available from the Tourist Office.

Slapton Sands & Slapton Lea: The simple obelisk on the edge of Slapton Sands was presented by the US to the people of the South Hams who were evacuated to provide a battle practice area for the Normandy Landings.

The long stretch of shingle beach is a good hunting ground for collectors of shells and pretty pebbles. A 3-mile sandbar, carrying the road, protects the freshwater lagoon of Salpton Lea from contamination by the sea. The lake and its surrounding reedbeds are now a Nature Reserve for birdlife, particularly waterfowl and Reed Warblers.

Dartmouth: Hire a small boat and explore the River, watch the wildlife and the many varieties of birds.

Have a day or half a day fishing at sea. Go sailing with the sailing schools or learn to sail a dinghy at Dittisham. At Blackpool Sands you can take part in watersports from the beach.
